Parsha: Mishpotem (2026)
The Power of the Small Details
The Torah presents us with countless mitzvot, many of them seemingly small, technical, and highly detailed.
The Parsha this week Mishpotim has many Mitzvot.
This raises an honest and important question: Does Hashem really care about every small detail? Does it truly matter if something is done one way or another?
There is one simple and powerful analogy that can explain this. Imagine a large, complex airplane made up of thousands of tiny parts. If you want the plane to soar properly, it is not enough to tighten only a few screws or assemble only the major components. Every single piece, even the smallest, must be precisely in place and properly secured. Only then can the plane fly, soar, and fulfill its purpose.
So too with the Jewish soul. A Jew naturally wants to connect with Hashem. But genuine connection is built through the details, through the daily actions and small mitzvot that shape a life of holiness. The question is not only why the details matter, but what they accomplish within us.
The Mitzvot are given to us to lift us higher. The inner purpose of mitzvot is to help a person move slightly beyond their ego, beyond their self-centred perspective and personal comfort. Each mitzvah is an opportunity to practice, the ability to step back from one’s own sense of self and make space for something greater.
Hashem gives us daily, weekly, and yearly opportunities, small missions woven into the rhythm of Jewish life, so that we can slowly refine ourselves.
May we all merit to take small steps towards allowing more space for Hashem’s presence, to be present in out lives.
Shabbat Shalom
