Parsha: Tzav (2026)
Dear Kehilla,
This Shabbat is known as Shabbat HaGadol— the “Great Shabbat.” It is called so because it falls out just before Pesach, commemorates the yahrzeit of Miriam, and marks the great miracle that occurred prior to the plague of the firstborn.
As we prepare for Pesach, here are a few important reminders,
- Selling Chametz – This can be completed here and should be done before Wednesday.
- Fast of the Firstborn – Firstborns should fast on Wednesday, or alternatively attend a Siyum (completion of a tractate of Talmud), which will take place at our Shule at 6:15 am on Wednesday morning.
- Chametz Deadlines –
– Stop eating chametz by 11:00 am on Wednesday.
– Chametz should be burned or disposed of by 11:59 am. - Eiruv Tavshilin – This should be performed on Wednesday.
– At the Seder – Be sure to share the story of Pesach, eat Matzah and Maror, and drink the four cups of wine. And of course, to enjoy this special time with family and friends.
This Pesach, we also keep in mind our brothers and sisters in Israel, who may be celebrating away from loved ones or under difficult circumstances. In Vehi Sheamda, we say that Hashem will save us from their hands. These words carry even deeper meaning this year.
Wishing everyone a meaningful and joyous Pesach. Chag Kasher VeSameach and hope to see you in Shul.
Rabbi Zalman & Esty
