Parsha: Ki Tisa (2026)

We are very excited to celebrate the Bar Mitzvah of our son Mendel, this Shabbat!

I would like to thank Hashem for all the blessings he has given to me and my family to be able to celebrate this wonderful Simcha.

In Jewish life we call these occasions “a Simcha.” (Joyous/happy moments). In the Hebrew language, there are a few words that used for joy and happiness: Sasson, Chedvah, Rinah, and others.

While they all express joy, Simcha refers to a deep inner joy that endures. It’s the type that comes after hard work and effort. Its not the type that is necessarily loud and expressive. It’s the everyday joy in being grateful and aware of the blessings and gifts in life.

The Baal Shemtov, founder of the Chassidic movment (1698-1760), explains that the Hebrew word B’simcha (to be jouyous), has the same letters of “Machshava” (thought). He guided his students to realise that the way we direct out thoughts and focus is the key to finding “Simcha.”

There is also something unique about joy. It has the power to break through barriers and obstructions. While in normal circumstances certain achievements are not possible. But when a person is in a state of joy those unachievable goals are not only within reach but are able to be accomplished as well.

May we always celebrate Simchas together in good health happiness and success.

Shabbat Shalom!
