Parsha: Yitro (2026)

Going back to the first sin of eating from the tree of knowledge. What really went wrong? And what can we learnt from it?

The Sages give a subtle but powerful insight: the command not to eat from the Tree of Knowledge was not given directly to Chava. Adam heard it first and passed the message on to her. That right there is the issue.

Something was already lost in translation. The first man was  also at fault, for not giving over the message and warning of G-d properly to his wife. If Chava the first Woman would have hear directly from G-d, there wold have been a better outcome.

However, at the moment that G-d was ready to give the Torah, we fix this mistake. The Torah says at the time of the giving of the Torah: “So shall you say to the House of Jacob and tell the Children of Israel.”

Rashi explains:
House of Jacob: these are the women.
Children of Israel: these are the men.

This time, G-d does not rely on second-hand transmission. He speaks directly. And He speaks to the women first.

Why?
Because women are the spiritual foundation of the home. When the message is clear at the source, the entire family is protected. If the Torah is received properly at its root, it flows correctly to every generation.

Long before modern slogans, the Torah already knew: If you want Torah to last, start with those who shape the soul of the family, namely the woman of the home.

One of the messages at Mount Sinai was “ladies first.” It wasn’t just as a courtesy, but as a spiritual necessity.
